Deco/Federal Desk and Chair
24"w x 60"l x 30"h
tiger maple, curly sycamore, wenge, maple

Done in the art deco and federal style, this desk set uses some of the finest tiger maple veneer. All sliced from the same log, the leaves were carefully book matched with particular attention given to the sequenced match of the drawer fronts, desktop and chair back. The matching solid wood trim accents were cut from one piece of exceptional German curly sycamore. The legs, frames and contrasting trim elements were cut from solid quarter sawn wenge. The chair was upholstered in top-quality Schumacher deco pattern fabric. The entire set is finished in a multi-coat clear hand-rubbed oil/polyurethane blend with a final top application of carnauba wax.

Curly Maple Desk
30"w x 63"l x 45"h
curly maple, plain maple

This desk was used to showcase my skills accumulated over 20 years of furniture making. Critical attention was given to grain selection in order to successfully blend the sculpted curves and sinuous lines. The case joinery and drawer interiors feature hand-cut dovetails. The drawers were meticulously fit with exceptionally smooth gliding hard maple runners. The drawer pulls were sculpted from the solid drawer fronts. Featured in American Woodworker Magazine, 1998, Design Book 6, The Taunton Press, 1992.

Arch Desk and Chair
24"w x 63"l x 45"h
bubinga, maple

Using a combination of solid wood, veneer and laminations, this desk derives its look from various intersecting parabolic arches. The drawer pulls were sculpted from the solid drawer fronts and careful grain selection was required to blend the veneered surfaces into the solid. Using the same techniques as the desk, the upholstered chair completes the set. Featured in Woodwork Magazine,1998, Woodwork West Magazine, 1999 and Wood Art Today by Donna Milach, 2003.

Bubinga Desk
36"wx 60"l x 45"h
bubinga

The case, legs, and top joinery were constructed to create a fluid look while the top organizer appears to grow out of the top. The two continuous sculpted curves across the front double as drawer pulls. Featured in Wood Art Today by Donna Milach, 2003.

mahogany, figured makore, birdseye maple
48"w x 30"l x 29"h

Perhaps one of the most challenging speculation pieces I have made, this desk required a combination of advanced techniques to create the deeply sculpted curved lines, while at the same time providing a visually balanced asymmetry. The 2 drawers have hand-cut dovetail joinery, and the bottom drawer interiors are birdseye maple.
